Cycling In Ayrshire

Cycling is becoming increasingly popular in Ayrshire as a growing number of people find it's cycle routes and byways.

There are a variety of cycle rides which are designed for a range of abilities. As you would expect in such a diverse county, there are flat bits and hilly bits.
The hills don't last forever - and the tops offer some breathtaking views which change with the seasons.

Picking A Route

Each area has three routes graded by length. Due to the differences in terrain as we move around Ayrshire rides within each grade may have a different level of challenge.

For few cyclists the Troon, Mauchline, Girvan and Ardrossan short routes are ideal for the first tentative outings. As your ability and confidence grows you'll have no problem with theother 'a' routes and the shorter 'b' trips.

The longer 'c' routes offer a wider range of outing. The Mauchline and Kilmarnock routes are amongst the easiest but you should be ready for a more testing day on the Ayr and Ballantrae ones.
